My name is MacKenzie Duncan, I’m 19 years old and I’m from Redwood Valley, which is a
small town in Northern California. I am attending Mendocino College to attain my Fire Science
degree to pursue a career in Arson Investigation.
I also compete in competitive rock crawling with my dad who is my spotter. I am gearing up for
my second season of which starts in March 2018. World Extreme Rock Crawling (W.E. Rock) is
a rock crawl event where the competitors maneuver 4×4 vehicles over extremely challenging
rock courses. Obstacles are marked with cones that are placed throughout the course. Penalty
points are assessed for hitting cones, using reverse, crossing course boundary lines, and for
timing out. Each course has a time limit of 10 minutes for the drivers to complete them. The
lower your score the better.
I was fortunate enough to have the incredible opportunity to be able to compete in the 2017
W.E. Rock West Coast series. We showed up to Round 1 of W.E. Rock in Congress Arizona,
with 4 hours of seat time, and really no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We finished
Round 1 in 14th place out of 20 cars. We went in to Round 2 with more confidence, but still not
enough experience to keep up with the more experienced drivers. We ended up in 13th after
Round 2 in Cedar City Utah. Round 3 was held in Donner California, and we were pretty excited
because it is practically our backyard. We finished Round 3 in 11th place. Our last W.E. Rock
event of the year, the W.E Rock Grand Nationals was held in Farmington New Mexico. We
finished with a 12th place. This put us in 10th place for the W.E. Rock West Coast points
standings, out of 32 Sportsman A competitors.
I left that event a little disappointed because I had one goal left for 2017. That was to finish a
single event in the top 10. That’s when we decided to sign up for the SuperCrawl World
Championship in Reno Nevada. We finished 5th in the trail buggy class. I can’t tell you how
rewarding it was to finally check that off of my list.
My vehicle is a purpose built crawler, built and previously driven by S&N Fabrication out of
Washington state. It has a custom-built DOM tube chassis, with a Chevy 4.3 vortec V6, TH400
transmission, Atlas 2 transfer case. We’re running Dynatrac pro rock 60 axles front and rear,
with 5.38 gears and Detroit lockers. It also has a new PSC hydraulic steering system. Fox air
shocks both in the front and rear paired with TK1 racing air bumps, 40” Pro Comp Super
Stickies on Pro Comp Vapor Pro 2 beadlocks. The car weighs in at just under 3,000 pounds.
My spotter and I will primarily be competing in the 2018 W.E Rock West Coast series. The dates
are as follows; March 3-4 (location TBD CA or AZ), April 28-29 in Sand Hallow, UT, July 7-8 in
Donner, CA, August 25-26 in Goldendale, WA, and Grand Nationals on September 8-9 in
Farmington, NM. We also have a few other possible rock crawls planned, such as SuperCrawl
in Reno, June 9-10th and Trail Hero in October in Utah. My main goal for the 2018 season is to
podium in my class. I would also like to learn and progress enough during the season to be able
to move up to the Promod class in 2019.
Competing comes with costs, and that means I am looking for marketing partners to help cover
costs for the 2018 season. Our fundraising goal is $15,000. This would help us cover expenses
including repairs and maintenance, lodging, fuel, entry fees, miscellaneous spare parts and
safety equipment.
In return for supporting me in my rock crawling endeavors, your name/logo of your business will
be displayed proudly on the side of my competition rock crawler. This year, they will be filming a
docudrama called ROCKgods on location at every W.E.Rock event. We have been informed
that there will be exposure for all teams during the filming. In addition, your business will be
mentioned on our website, and all other forms of social media which we are currently growing.
Please see next page for details on sponsor levels.
