Renegade Rocksports driver MacKenzie Duncan, 18, of Redwood Valley is competing in the 2017 World Extreme Rock Crawling Western series. Round two of W.E.Rock was held in Cedar City, UT on May 20th-21st. Mackenzie and her spotter finished in 13th place with a final score of 16 points.

World Extreme Rock Crawling is a motorsports event where the competitors maneuver 4×4 vehicles over challenging rock courses with obstacles marked with cones that are placed throughout the course. Penalty points are assessed for hitting cones, using reverse, crossing course boundary lines, and for timing out. Each course has a time limit of 10 minutes for the drivers to complete them. Teams are trying to get the lowest score possible.

On Saturday, right off the bat the Fowler Auto Center buggy laid down their best run of the weekend (and to date) on course C4, with a -27. They had one time out that day, but then followed it up with two “decent” runs. Their teamwork improved tremendously, in comparison to their performance in round 1 in early March.

On day 2, they started out with another nice effort of -24 on course C4. The second run of the day ended with them timing out on course C1. The third run on course C2 was another tough course. MacKenzie said “I put myself in a position that cost a lot of time to get out of, we couldn’t quite get the car far enough over to the left.” The error resulted in cones down as the team raced through the remaining obstacles finishing with 1 second left on the clock. The fourth and final course of the day was a pretty clean run, with only one cone being brushed at the last gate.

Overall the weekend was a success, and the team is now sitting 9th out of 25 cars in the World Extreme Rock Crawling Western Series, after two competitions. Be sure to mark your calendars, we will be competing at the Donner Ski Ranch in Norden CA for Round 3 on July 22nd and 23rd!
